What does the rental include out of the box?

Hosting, white-label theming, course authoring, exam engine, certificate issuance, payment, and a verifiable certificate URL — operated and updated by us.

Every rental ships with the building blocks a paid certification programme actually needs. That means a course authoring interface where your subject-matter experts can upload SCORM packages, video, PDFs and quizzes — and a learner-facing course player that runs on mobile and desktop without download. The exam engine supports timed assessments, randomised question banks, partial-credit scoring and a manual review queue for written answers.

Certificates are issued automatically on pass and carry a public verification URL — a simple page anyone can open to confirm the holder, the credential, and the date. That single feature kills 90% of "is this person actually certified?" emails for compliance officers downstream.

Payments flow through Stripe by default, with SEPA and Mollie available for European cohorts. You set the price, currency and tax rate per course; we handle invoicing and VAT IDs.

Operating costs we absorb: server uptime, security patching, backup, GDPR DPA, EU data residency, and the platform roadmap (you get new features without a separate change order).

How is rental different from buying a generic LMS like Moodle or Teachable?

Rental is purpose-built for paid certification — verifiable credentials, proctoring, recertification, EU compliance — without the engineering work an open-source LMS demands.

Moodle and similar open-source platforms are powerful but assume an in-house engineering team. You pay in plugin maintenance, theme conflicts, and the cost of someone owning the upgrade path. We've migrated five clients off Moodle in the past two years; the recurring story is the same — the LMS started as a side project for IT and ended up consuming a senior engineer.

Generic SaaS like Teachable or Thinkific go the other way: low-code, beautiful, but built for course creators selling info-products, not regulated certification. They lack proctoring, audit-grade exam logs, recertification windows and SCORM support.

Bitloom rental sits in the middle. The platform is opinionated about certification (it does this one thing and does it well) but the operating model is fully managed.

Can I move off rental later if I outgrow it?

Yes. SCORM packages export cleanly, learner data exports as CSV, and our Custom Build engagement can fork the rental tenant into your own codebase.

The most common path is rental for the first 18 months while you validate the market, then a Custom Build once revenue justifies owning the platform. We've structured the rental contract so the migration credit applies — 25% of paid rental fees deduct from a Custom Build invoice in the same calendar year.

Even if you exit to a different vendor, your IP travels: courses are SCORM, learner records are standard CSV, certificates carry signed verification URLs that keep working from a redirect we maintain for two years post-exit.

Frequently asked questions

Do you handle proctoring and identity verification?

Yes. Built-in webcam proctoring with AI flagging, and ID verification via Veriff or Sumsub on request.

Webcam proctoring records the session, flags suspicious behaviour (multiple faces, off-screen gaze, audio anomalies) and stores the recording for 90 days for review. ID verification adds €0.80 per verification on top of subscription.

Can the platform handle multiple languages?

Yes — courses are language-tagged and learners pick at signup. Default UI ships in English, Spanish, German and Polish.

We add new UI languages on request; typical lead time is two weeks. Course content is unlimited (you upload in any language and learners filter by language at the catalogue).

What happens if I want a feature that's not in the platform?

Small features go on the shared roadmap; tenant-specific features run as a custom mini-engagement, fixed-fee.

Roughly 60% of feature requests we receive end up benefiting all tenants — those go free. The rest (one-off integrations, branded mobile apps, niche regulator reports) are quoted as a separate small project.

Is there a discount for annual prepay?

Yes. Annual prepay carries a 15% discount and waives the setup fee for new clients.

Want a working version of this on your domain?

A 30-minute call is enough to know whether this fits. We'll be honest about whether rental, build or a different vendor is right.
